Acupuncture and Herbal Therapeutics
Is Acupuncture right for me?
Acupuncture is a traditional form of medicine, developed over more than 3,000 years in China and is currently used in over 183 different countries as regular forms of treatment for acute, chronic and preventative care, often in an integrative manner with western medicine. Treatments consist of single use, stainless steel, hair-like “pins” to stimulate the body and induce healing effects locally as well as systemically and can have remarkable results for health and well-being.
During the initial appointment, 30+ minutes will be spent discussing your health history, specific concerns and the treatment modalities that best suit your case. Acupuncture is a full body medicine, which aims to harmonize both the physical and mental/emotional aspects of a person and this holistic approach is another reason it can be so specialized and powerful.
I believe in integrative medicine and always strive to recognize what is best for the patient. Collaboration with other physicians is available for complex treatment plans.

Acupuncure does indeed use needles, but they are no where near as large as the needles that are used, for say, a blood draw. They average around 1 mm in diameter. A practitioner is trained to insert them as painlessly as possible. Some needles might have an initial sensation of heaviness or a deep ache. These sensations are a good sign, as we say, for “grasping the Qi” but this typically will fade away within a few minutes of treatment. Overall, an acupuncture treatment should never be painful! In fact, it’s been said the number one side effect of acupuncture is relaxation. And keep in mind, there are always alternatives if needles are not an option for you.

Everyone is different and everyone’s body responds to acupuncture differently. It is said the longer the issue has been present the longer it will take to resolve. With that said, acupuncture is accumulative. Depending on each patient’s unique case, I might recommend a treatment plan of 1-2 visits a week for the initial few weeks and then space out treatments more from there. Alternatively, some treatments might only require visits every other week in the beginning. Each person is different! After we reach the accomplished goal, often treatments begin to be on an as-needed basis. If you have a specific question about your condition, please feel fee to contact me for a more personalized answer! We can work together to make the most out of your availability.

Chinese herbal therapies can be wildly transformative. The development of Chinese herbal theory has spanned thousands of years. I fully believe in their importance to certain treatments, but there are multiple ways the herbs can be offered. Yes, there can be decoctions, or “teas” made from them that might not be for everyone. There are also tinctures, tablets, tea pills and granules as options. If we determine herbs could be of benefit to you, know you always have options.

I do not currently accept any insurance plans. I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. If you decide to come in for treatment and begin a treatment plan I do offer 30 minute appointments for $65. These appointments are there to help people who are interested in just acupuncture during a treatment. They offer more flexibility for taking time away from a work or a busy day and are a more affordable way to see results while still getting the treatments recommended for ideal care.
